On the Right Track: MICROSYS – Trade Fair for Microsystems Technology and Ultra-Precision Manufacturing
Frickenhausen, 14 October 2005 – When private trade fair promoter Paul E. Schall launched the MICROSYS trade fair for microsystems technology and ultra-precision manufacturing two years ago, many potential exhibitors made a gesture of refusal and expressed their opinion that there were already more then enough specialised technical trade fairs. Others saw this new, future oriented topic as a concrete opportunity for positioning and expanding their business activities and participated at the initial event in 2004, which immediately resulted in more than just a hollow victory. As a result, the 2nd MICROSYS was promoted in the spring of 2005. The promoter and the conceptual sponsor (the NC Society) not only registered more than twice as many exhibitors and three times the booth floor space at the second event, but rather significantly increased visitor interest as well from both inside and outside of Germany. The logical consequence is to continue developing MICROSYS and to create an internationally prominent information and business platform at the 3rd MICROSYS, whose character goes significantly above and beyond that of a convention trade fair.
From Convention Trade Fair to Technical Trade Fair with Convention As project manager Alexander Paul puts it: “Launched successfully as a convention trade fair, the MICROSYS is already evolving into a technical trade fair with convention and seminar program in its 3rd year. More than 50% of the floor space occupied at the last event has already been booked to date, so that we can expect numerous new exhibitors to participate at the upcoming event from 9 through 12 May 2006, and will thus plan to use pavilion 5 in its entirety. It’s also interesting to note that most of the exhibitors from 2005 have registered to exhibit again, which allows us to conclude that as promoters we’re on the right track with regard to the mix of topics, and that the exhibitors anticipate good business in the short-term and long-term future”. Further attractive topics result from the use of microsystems products in more and more areas of professional and private life, for example automotive applications, which will represent a separate field of subject matter as is already the case with micro injection moulding and ultra-precision manufacturing.
Automotive Applications as a New Field of Subject Matter and an Expansion of Ultra-Precision Manufacturing An upswing is also anticipated in the area of ultra-precision manufacturing, because expert visitors and customers rightfully expect manufacturers of machine tools and tooling, as well as clamping technology for processing high precision micro-components, to become active in this market, and to provide adequate production equipment. Within this context it must also be mentioned that the market for machine tools and tooling etc. is no longer growing in the usual areas all over the world, and that ousting competition is taking place. And thus it’s only logical to seek out new markets which are not so densely occupied, and production of micro-technology components certainly represents a very important market of this type. Conventional chip removing technologies such as turning, drilling, milling, thread cutting, grinding, honing and lapping, as well as wire erosion diesinking EDM are used in this area, as are modern ultrasonic and laser processes for machining hard brittle materials, and for producing very delicate structures.
